Trusts remain a popular vehicle for holding clients’ assets and investments. There have been several changes to tax laws that affect trusts over the last few years and further changes are included in the tax bill that is before Parliament. This year has seen the release of Inland Revenue’s comprehensive 130-page interpretation statement on the taxation of trusts.


This course will use a case study approach to examine the taxation treatment of trusts, including:

  • The changes to the definition of complying trusts
  • What happens when a settlor, trustee or beneficiary becomes a non-resident
  • Foreign trusts disclosure obligations
  • CRS due diligence and reporting obligations
  • Proposed changes to the tax rules applying to trusts in the latest tax bill
  • GST implications of making distributions to beneficiaries

Upon satisfactory completion of this activity you will be:
